Program Description

Presenter Melissa Kelly will present the 5-week class, Learn the Basics of American Sign Language. The focus is on basic communication. 

Week 1: Introduction, number 1-10

Week 2: Description of people, colors, 11-19

Week 3: Family

Week 4: 20-29, emotions, tic tac toe 

Week 5: School theme

When you register, it will be for all five sessions. All five sessions start at 6:30 on Thursday at the Lawrenceburg Main Library. The dates are: April 24, May 1, May 8, May 15 and May 22. Space is limited.

If you cannot make a session, it is OK. But please email Denise at dfreitagburdette@lpld.lib.in.us to let her know ASAP in case there is room to add someone from a possible waitlist for that session. (Your spot will still be saved for the other sessions.)

Kelly, who is deaf, has been teaching ASL classes for about 7 years.  She is involved in the community to help other people who want to learn sign language and/or Deaf culture.

She also is involved in the following organizations: Kentucky Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Hands and Voices, Deaf Streetlight, Hearing Speech Deaf Center, and KOI Silent Dinner.
