Program Description

Program Description

Ron Nicholson, a professor emeritus of English at Ivy Tech Community College, will show that many of our favorite Christmas songs were POEMS first by giving some history and fun facts about them, reading them, and sprinkling in some funny stories.

The first 18 people to register (and check in in-person for the program by 6:15 p.m.) will receive a small Christmas-themed ornament puzzle. There also will be punch and pretzels to enjoy.

Highlights include:

Silent Night (great backstory)

The Twelve Days of Christmas (with the world's fastest reading ever)

A Visit from St. Nicholas and a discussion of the big authorship question

Good King Wenceslas and his fascinating story

Auld Lang Syne

A Hanukkah poem

A little-known Wordsworth poem, a Longfellow, a Tennyson, and a funny poem about fruitcake.
