Program Description

Archaeological Research Institute presents their April Happy Hour History speaker Bob Genheimer.

A Story of Family, Violence, and Concealment in a 19th Century Cincinnati Privy Shaft

Routine excavations at a 19th century stone-lined outhouse shaft in downtown Cincinnati revealed much that was not routine. Clothing scraps and associated hardware from a late 19th century horizon were identified as a Cincinnati Policeman’s uniform. Or, were they? Subsequent archaeological examinations of the privy’s contents and historical detective work revealed the true nature of the uniform and eventually, the name of the officer. Get ready for a tale of family dynamics, anti-social behavior, violence, and concealment much of which is played out in Cincinnati newspapers. This is a true wedding of archaeological and historical research.

Happy Hour to follow at Hoosier Icehouse!
